Frequently Asked Questions
Every Question Answered Before You Commit
Pricing, timelines, ownership, SEO, support — the honest answers to what South African business owners ask us most before starting a project.
Getting Started
How much does a website cost in South Africa?
Most small business websites range from R3,500–R10,000. E-commerce stores typically start at R8,000. The main variables are the number of pages, whether you need online payments or booking systems, and the level of custom design. We provide fixed-price quotes — no hourly rates and no surprise invoices. See our full website pricing guide for a detailed breakdown.
How long does it take to build a website?
A standard small business site (5–8 pages) takes 1–3 weeks from deposit to launch — provided we have your content on day one. The most common cause of delays is waiting for text, photos, or logo files from clients. Urgent projects can often be delivered in 7 days with an express fee. Read our full guide: How long does a website take?
Do I need to be in Cape Town to work with you?
No. We work with clients across South Africa entirely remotely. Communication is via WhatsApp, email, and video calls. We've delivered projects in Johannesburg, Durban, Pretoria, and beyond without meeting the client in person.
What information do you need from me to start?
Before we start building, we need: your logo (or we design one separately), the text content for each page, photos you want to use (or we can source licensed stock images), and examples of websites whose style you like. The more ready your content is on day one, the faster your site launches.
Pricing & Payment
How does payment work?
We work on a 50% deposit to start, 50% on delivery. For larger projects, we may split into three milestones. We accept EFT and PayFast. No payment is due until you've approved the final site.
Are there any ongoing fees after the website launches?
The only mandatory ongoing cost is hosting — your site has to live somewhere. Our optional managed hosting plan is R80/month and covers hosting, SSL, automated backups, uptime monitoring, and minor monthly updates. You are not required to use our hosting — you can take the site to any host you choose.
What's included in the quoted price?
Every quote includes: custom design, full build, mobile optimization, SEO foundations (meta tags, structured data, sitemap, page speed optimization), contact forms, 30 days of post-launch support, and full ownership of the code. Domain registration and hosting are separate unless specified.
Do you offer payment plans?
For projects over R8,000, we can discuss milestone-based payment structures. Reach out and we'll find something that works for your cash flow.
Ownership & Control
Do I own my website after it's built?
Yes — 100%. Your domain, your code, your hosting account. We hand everything over on launch day. You can take it to any other developer or host at any time. No lock-in, no platform fees, no holding your site hostage.
Can I update my website myself after launch?
It depends on the type of site. Static sites (which we typically build) are best updated by a developer for anything beyond text changes. For clients who need frequent content updates, we can integrate a simple content management interface. We'll advise the best approach for your needs during the scoping call.
What if I want to move to a different developer later?
You're free to do so. We give you full access to your code repository, your hosting account, and your domain registrar. Any competent developer can take over maintenance or further development. We're not trying to lock you in.
Design & Development
Do you use templates or build from scratch?
We build custom designs — not templates. Each site is designed specifically for your brand, your services, and your target customers. We don't recycle the same layout for 50 different clients.
What technology do you build with?
We primarily use Astro with React components, Tailwind CSS for styling, and deploy on Netlify or Vercel. This gives you a fast, secure, low-maintenance website that scores 90–100 on Google PageSpeed. No WordPress, no page builders.
Will my website work on mobile?
Yes — all sites are designed mobile-first. We test on multiple screen sizes and devices before launch. Given that over 70% of South African web traffic is mobile, this isn't optional.
Can you redesign my existing website?
Yes. We can rebuild your existing site with a fresh design while preserving your existing URL structure and SEO rankings. We'll audit what you have, identify what's working, and build on that foundation.
Do you build e-commerce websites?
Yes. We build e-commerce sites with PayFast integration for South African businesses. Product catalogues, cart, checkout, and order management. See our e-commerce service page for details and pricing.
SEO & Performance
Will my website rank on Google?
Every website we build includes SEO foundations: proper meta tags, structured data (Schema.org), sitemap, fast loading, mobile optimization, and clean URL structure. These are table stakes. For competitive local search rankings, you'll also need a complete Google Business Profile and — over time — content that targets the search terms your customers use.
Do you offer ongoing SEO services?
We can advise on SEO strategy and create optimized content pages as add-ons. We don't currently offer full-service monthly SEO retainers — but we'll point you toward the right approach for your market. Read our guide: Do I need SEO for my business website?
How fast will my website load?
Typically under 2 seconds on a standard 4G connection. Our sites consistently score 90–100 on Google PageSpeed Insights. We achieve this through static-first architecture, image optimization, CDN hosting, and avoiding bloated plugin ecosystems.
Support & Maintenance
What happens if something breaks after launch?
You get 30 days of free post-launch support included. Any bugs, display issues, or broken elements we'll fix at no charge. After 30 days, fixes are available as part of our managed hosting plan (R80/month) or quoted individually.
What does the R80/month managed hosting include?
Hosting on a global CDN, SSL certificate, automated daily backups, uptime monitoring, and up to 30 minutes of minor content updates per month (text changes, image swaps, small additions). See the full managed hosting plan details.
Can I add new pages or features later?
Yes. You can request additional pages, new features, or design updates at any time. We'll quote separately for anything outside the original scope. Small updates (adding a page, changing prices) are typically R500–R1,500 depending on complexity.
Still Have Questions?
We respond to every enquiry within 24 hours, usually much faster. No bots, no generic auto-replies — a real answer from the person building your site.
